Why Taking a Vacation is Excellent For Business

Wondering why taking a vacation is excellent for your business? Many solo entrepreneurs and small business owners in the U.S. don’t see the benefits. Instead, vacations are seen as a pleasurable indulgence to be enjoyed when we have the extra time and money. However, taking a break from your business can be incredibly beneficial for your personal well-being and business productivity. In my experience, these trips actually help boost profitability. You’re creative, alive, and infuse fresh perspectives; your existing and potential customers notice!

It’s been widely reported that employees who take vacations are more productive and creative and have lower rates of burnout. Wouldn’t the same research hold for business owners? By stepping away from your business for a short time, you can recharge, reflect and question the evolution of your business and return with renewed energy, fresh perspectives, and clarity of purpose.

Every idea, thought, or word becomes a seed; the seed idea is sent out and planted in the soul (held in mind). It becomes a conception to be expressed in the physical world. – Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East, author Baird T. Spalding.

It’s Nearly Impossible To Get Clarity

When work becomes robotic, you’re deep into the daily grind without a breather; seeing things from a fresh vantage point can be nearly impossible. Taking time off allows you to step back and gain a new perspective on your business and yourself – vital if you’re a solo entrepreneur or a small business owner.

Are you thinking this sounds great in theory, but what about the cost of taking time off? Of course, for every action, there is always a reaction, but what happens if you rely on non-action and skip the vacation break:

  • You’ll continue down the same path: is it the right path?
  • Realize it or not, you’ve evolved over the past six months or the past year,
  • Ask yourself how you have changed; look hard and look deep – the answers will come, be it good and bad,
  • You’re learning what works and what doesn’t: business evolution,
  • Maybe, you’ve discovered a new outlook on life, about yourself– which is reflected in your business, too,
  • You’ve overcome a fear; celebrate this,
  • You’ve realized you’d rather serve a slightly different audience,
  • You’re ready to develop new processes that must be thought through to advance your work.
  • Have you reflected on question two, since the beginning of the year? If not, it’s time to schedule a getaway; for reflection, questioning, and reviewing.
  • Please understand that if something is wonky in your business, it may indicate your personality or spirituality offline. Travel is the perfect time to examine your personality traits and go within to hear the messages from Divine Intelligence, which always steers you in the right direction.

You Can’t Know Your Why Unless You Know the WHO of Who You Really Are. Nina Zapala, The Curious Entrepreneur

Why Taking A Vacation Is Excellent For Business

When working with entrepreneurs, I find they get caught up in the external world’s business hype. Do this, use this funnel, find your customers on Threads, Be Real, and Clubhouse, or redo your site and use this trending color; Barbie Pink – really!

Oh, hell NO! My ENTP is voicing an opinion — it’s kinda what ENTPs do!

Do you ask yourself how these things help you serve your core audience?

Will Your Personality Type Take A Break?

Well, I can’t say for certain if you’ll take a vacation break to reflect and ponder the next steps in your business, but what I can say for certain is that each type has a set of predictive characteristics that make you more inclined than another to break away and enjoy a few days, a few weeks or even a month contemplating the direction of their business and hopefully the direction of their lives; as the two go hand in hand. To keep this blog succinct, I’ll break down entrepreneurial personality archetypes according to temperaments. Thank you, David Keirsey!

Exploring Entrepreneurs: Sensing Perceiving Types SPs

The business owners are spur-of-the-moment people and are likely to put up a closed sign and hit the road.

The business owners are spur-of-the-moment people and are likely to put up a closed sign and hit the road. Even though each of these types is slightly different, they all have practicality in common and are highly effective in getting what they want. If time off is what they want, they’ll take it!

  • Magnetic  (ESTP)
  • Active (ISTP)
  • Playful  (ESFP)
  • Abstract  (ISFP)

Success Navigators: Sensing Judging Types SJs

Success-navigating entrepreneurs want to get things done and done right, so travel will probably take a back seat to work. Hardworking, detailed, and dependable. Taking time off is challenging, as they feel deeply responsible knowing others depend on them. Please note; time away would do you a world of good.

  • Dutiful  (ESTJ)
  • Grounded  (ISTJ)
  • Attentive  (ESFJ)
  • Kindly  (ISFJ)

CEO Wanderers: Intuitive Feeling Types NFs

CEO wanderers’ travel plans may include an annual social gathering for their employees, as they truly desire to bring meaning and purpose into other people’s lives. If you do a workplace gathering, may I suggest that you dedicate at least a 1/2 day to reflect and explore your feelings and insights from this trip and the past months?

  • Harmonious (ENFJ)
  • Insightful (INFJ)
  • Expressive (ENFP): The type longs to travel more than any other type
  • Seeking  (INFP)

Experiential Entrepreneurs: Intuitive Thinking Types NTs

It’s a toss-up for experiential entrepreneurs as these types have a strong rationale for and against taking a travel break. They’ll stay put if something novel and exciting breaks in their business. On the other hand, a trip is exactly what’s needed if things are at a standstill.

  • Assured  (ENTJ)
  • Inventive  (INTJ)
  • Curious  (ENTP): This type is second to Expressive as they also love traveling.
  • Ingenious (INTP)

Know Your TrueSelf To Become an Authentic Entrepreneur

The biggest takeaway here is time away from your business shouldn’t solely be about your business. As an entrepreneur myself, and having served hundreds of entrepreneurs, the best thing to do for your businesses is to honestly know yourself – the who of who you really are.

JOURNAL PROMPT: Get your journal out and answer this question. And please answer this question honestly; if you don’t know who you really are, how can you serve your ideal clients? Trust me. I lied to myself for decades; it’s why I do what I do today!

Do you know yourself?

I’m speaking directly to knowing your personality type functions and how they work as one to create your personality, your personal reality.

If you don’t know these things about yourself, we should talk. It will be fun. That’s what my clients say!

Why A Vacation Could Be The Best Thing For Your Business

Travel involves coming face-to-face with unknown circumstances, detours, and new experiences. It’s an exciting time to observe yourself in action. I guarantee you’ll see what you are made of. You’ll get triggered when you lie to yourself about something you don’t want to face. Ahh, this means Divine Intelligence is ready to provide a “soulution” to your problem. Which usually involves listening to your true self and examining your personality traits.

Side note: What is the true self? Essentially it’s the spark of Divinity within its authentic, genuine, and empowered. It’s the joyful YOU deep inside of you, longing to express itself.

Not knowing your true self is a big deal because your sales message, about page, emails, blogs, and podcasts aren’t authentic, and people can feel it. Here’s how you know this is true for you:

  • You’re pushing out a ton of content with little response,
  • You’ve got a fabulous offer, but no one is booking,
  •  More than 50% of the clients are people you don’t want to work with. In fact, you don’t resonate with them on any level – ahh, the law of attraction in play.

Taking a Break is Good for Your Soul and Your Business

Many entrepreneurs wonder if their business will suffer if they take a vacation of reflection, intent on self-discovery and business innovation.

Yes, taking a break can be burdensome, but anything is possible if you play beforehand.

In short, taking a break from your business is not only good for your well-being, it’s also good for your business. So the next time you feel burnt out or overwhelmed, consider taking a vacation. Your business (and your sanity) will thank you for it.
