Is your fashion style authentic? How do you create your fashion style? Juicy questions, right? I’ll answer these questions to guide you into an exceptional style, mind, and life!
How many of you rely on what the supposed fashion experts say we should love? Answer honestly.
What if before you purchased another piece of clothing, a purse, shoes, or jewelry, you paid very close attention to how the item made you feel? When you try it on, do you feel confident? Even better, does it make you feel giddy? Does it feel honest? When you step out in the world, do you feel fabulous?
What if you get ritualistic around the energy of what’s being put on or around your body? And what if you tapped into your personality type’s essential self, your dominant trait? Ask, do you feel good about what you’re wearing? Does it feel honest?
Start asking yourself how does what you’re wearing feel like, not what you look like in the mirror. In fact, don’t look in the mirror, and I promise you, your entire relationship with fashion will change. And more importantly, it will increase the joy around how you feel about yourself – body and mind

Can Iris Apfel, Help You Define Your Own Style
First, do you know who Iris Apfel is? An American businesswoman, a SheEO, and a renowned fashion icon; a centenarian and wise elder. Apfel has launched designer eyewear and jewelry, and in 2021 Lowes got on board – this April, so did H&M. You could say she knows a thing or two about fashion, but can she help you with your kitchen style?
I don’t believe Iris Apfel can help you because your authentic style is wrapped in your personality type. You don’t have to believe me because deep within, you already know your own style. It’s all about peeling away narratives others have expressed and you’ve taken personally. It’s the negative conditioning and old stories that need to be released.
HINT: Your fashion style is found within your four genius personality type pillars – your traits, which are fundamental to your physical reality. Your personality preferences help you create your authentic fashion style!
Let Your Inner Guide Be Your Style Guide
We ALL seem to look externally, seeing everyone else, fashion editors, influencers, models, and actors, and think; I want to be like them. Have you ever asked yourself why? Beyond the glitz, glamour, and fame, do you really believe they have something you don’t?
False belief, false belief, false belief!
Here’s the problem with this thinking. When you doubt who you really are, you express doubt, creating self-doubt. UGH, the circle of stuckness. It sets the stage for the next experience regardless of what or who you’re wearing. It’s all energy — how does it make you feel? That should be the focus.
And I believe if I asked Iris Apfel, she would feel the same, as she’s all about having an authentic fashion style. Just look at her. It’s so obvious! She’s over-the-top-marvelous. Her authenticity has made her famous.
Does Having an Authentic Fashion Sense Mean Designer Wear?
Back to Irish Apfel, who has spent 100 years cultivating her style and inspiring others, she loves the idea of high-and-low fashion. It means she’s ok mixing high fashion with H&M. In fact, she recently launched an H&M Iris Apfel clothing line.
Now that’s advice I can get on board with, but hey, you might not. Just be you! It’s all about being true to who you really are, regardless of what I say or what Iris Apfel says.
I got so caught up in the luxury designer thing; Chanel, Dior, Armani… Admittedly, I do love me, some old-school 1950s Chanel – it’s to die for — in my opinion! I still have an Armani suit that I will never get rid of. It feels like I’m wearing my “supersuit” when I put it on. Yep, it’s that freak’in good. It’s because I love it. It’s SOOO me, and it makes me feel good, as does my Hanes T’s. What makes you feel good?

Advice that Iris Apfel and I Agree On
So you’ve probably guessed this already, but I’m not a fashion icon like Apfel, but I know what I like and don’t like, so I guess I’m my own fashion icon. 👗 People often comment on my quirky fashion sense. I’m not sure if they like it or think I’m weird. 🤪
Anywhoo, a recent Vogue article featured Iris Apfel and her new Cafe kitchen design. Gorgeous, of course, but this question stopped my scrolling and got me reading.
Vogue: What would you say to somebody who wants to learn to express themselves authentically?
First, they have to find themselves. You have to know who you are and then work at it. Style is a matter of attitude, attitude, attitude, but you have to possess individuality to have an attitude. You can’t be like everybody else and copy what everybody else is doing.
You must know who you are and stick to it—no flip-flopping and changing around every three seconds. You’ll find it’s hard work at the beginning, but it pays off. People should celebrate their originality and not want to be part of a herd. – Iris Apfel
Vogue: Describe your personal style and what makes it so distinct.
“It’s big, and it’s bold, and it’s a tangible expression about how I feel about things.” – Iris Apfel.
Well, that sums things up rather nicely, wouldn’t you say?
“When you don’t dress like everybody else, you don’t have to think like everybody else.” — Iris Apfel
