3 Ways To Stay True to You During the Holidays

Three ways (3-holiday stress busters) to stay true to you this holiday season addresses ways to stay tuned in to yourself and rethink the holiday season beyond the hustle and bustle, shopping, and exhausting perfection.

How many of you look forward to the holidays? Do you find the season to be stressful or joyful? Some say they love the holidays but are saying so to please others. Or do you strive for perfection by comparing yourself with your neighbors or, even worse, a friend who you try and outdo every year? Do you put everybody else before yourself? An exhausting way to spend what I believe is a season of light, intention, and reflection.

Interesting how the holidays are celebrated in the throws of the darker winter months in western countries.

What if these celebrations are here to bring light to the dark days prompting us to reflect on what we are grateful for,

To have faith in what is to come,

To inspire us to be aware of who we really are,

And ignite our childlike persona, helping us enjoy the season all the more.

What if?

Holidays Festivities in Seasons of Low Light

Have you wondered why there are so many spiritual/religious holiday celebrations heading into the fall and winter months in western countries? Think about it. The sun shines a little less, leaving extended periods of darkness. Some say the winter seasons even cause mood disorders. Yet, look at how many celebrations occur during November, December, and even into January.

The month of November ushers in Thanksgiving in the U.S. and a plethora of harvest festivals to thank Mother Nature for all SHE provides. And then we slide into December to celebrate the many religious holidays de jour: Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah, Noche Buena, and in January, the world celebrates New Year’s Day!

All of these holidays give us pause to look within, to find the light within us to bring about joy, peace, and harmony. Maybe this is the underlying reason for the season, to go within and see the light within ourselves and realize just how blessed we truly are. There is much to be grateful for and to give thanks even when the outer world is chaotic and trying – it’s even more important to so within and connect with your Divine spark!

“All phenomena — including bad weather — contribute to our experience of life. Don’t discriminate. Enjoy the adventure.”
Practicing Spirituality

1. Using an Advent Calendar To Stay True to You: A 5-minute Morning Routine

From the Latin word adventus, meaning “arrival” or “coming,” Advent is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Yes, this screams of religious undertones, so if religion is not your thing and spirituality is, then take note.

Why not use the advent calendar idea to begin or expand on a personal journey to Christ Consciousness by initiating a 5-minute morning routine? There is no better time of the year to start this practice. And honestly, during the craziness of the holidays, these readings will keep you grounded in what’s really important, seeing love in all there is.

A few suggestions. Visit your favorite bookstore or review them online and see which one resonates. No matter the book you choose, you can embark on an awakening journey to Christ Consciousness. And the good thing about the suggestions below is you can read them in bite-size messages. Why wait for the new year to start or further your relationship with Divine Intelligence?

Obligations That Keep You From Staying True To You

So why do we allow the propaganda of the season to put us in a stressful tailspin? Yet we all seem to succumb to the marketing tomfoolery that motives our actions this time of the year; shopping, travel, extravagant meals… All these to-dos rob us of our inner peace during this light-inspired season.

I don’t know about you, but I can count on my hands the Christmas gifts that I still cherish today. And guess what? Four out of five were handmade! So we shop to what end -to fulfill some thoughtless cultural ritual?

Family traditions are grand, but if they’re not your cup of tea, why do we persist on them each year? Is it a lost memory you are trying to retain? Or a conditioned belief that says this is the way to happiness. Here again, we are caught up in the propaganda of the season without giving our actions a second thought.

2. The Intention Behind The Reason for the Season

I ask you to question the intention behind the reason for each season.

Are you doing things to please someone else, or are you doing it because it’s near and dear to your heart? Does it bring you joy? For example, if you do not want to serve ten dishes for your holiday meal, tell everyone you’re paring down this year. This holiday, I will only share a few family favorites. The intention behind your actions may be pretty simple: you don’t want to waste food, or maybe your aim is a healthy one. Instead of slaving in the kitchen all day this year, spend the day sharing and enjoying your family, friends, and yourself. Skip the food coma altogether.

Now would be a good idea to write down your intentions for the holiday season and share them with your loved ones. Be firm in your intentions, let others know this is important to you, and of course, find out what’s important to them, and then compromise to best meet everyone’s intentions.

When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment; he needs help. That’s the message he is sending.

3. Ways To Remain True to You This Holiday Season

As we jump into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, let’s slow down and remember the holidays are a reflection of your inner consciousness. So if we get triggered, frustrated, and angry, it’s time to stop and take a look at the trigger that is surfacing. Explore it, feel it and heal it – a blog post that may help you understand further what’s triggering you. Triggers are usually a cognitive function that is unhealthy. To make it simple: a cognitive function is how you acquire and process information.

3 Ways: To Protect Yourself From Another’s Negative Vibes!

– When someone is gossiping, don’t participate. You may even share a story about a friend who talked behind your back and how much it hurt you, and you’ve learned to share positive stories helping you to enjoy long-lasting relationships. If the gossip continues, just walk away.

– When a family member is rude, politely excuse yourself. If they corner you again, say something nice about the event, shut the conversation down, and walk away.

– When someone tries to put you down, criticize you, or indirectly belittles you in the name of “your best interest,” stand firm. This behavior is usually a person mirroring their inner fears. Please don’t take what they say, personality.

Honestly, if you’re an introvert and this is all too much, take a time out.

“Belonging so fully to yourself that you’re willing to stand alone is a wilderness—an untamed, unpredictable place of solitude and searching. It is a place as dangerous as it is breathtaking, a place as sought after as it is feared. The wilderness can often feel unholy because we can’t control it, or what people think about our choice of whether to venture into that vastness or not. But it turns out to be the place of true belonging, and it’s the bravest and most sacred place you will ever stand.”
Brené Brown author, Braving The Wildnerness
