Halloween Costumes Based on Your Remarkable Personality Type!
I’ll confess something right up front: there was a time I thought Halloween was completely ridiculous. Masks, costumes, sugary treats, and pretending to be someone I’m not? No thank you. I was busy trying to be taken seriously. I thought playful things were for kids or twenty-somethings still figuring themselves out.
Then one October evening—mocktail in hand—I found myself standing in front of a mirror wearing a wildly feathered Venetian mask. And in that moment, I realized something powerful. Wearing that mask, I wasn’t hiding. I was showing another facet of the real me—the trickster, the dramatic one, the bold soul who loves a touch of spectacle.
Funny thing? That mask didn’t cover me up. It unveiled me.
And that’s when it hit me: Midlife is the perfect time to play. Halloween can be that sacred permission slip—a little theater for the soul—where we drop the societal scripts, wear whatever costume feels deliciously right, and remind ourselves aging doesn’t mean dimming the light.
Who says Halloween is just for kids? Not me. Not you. Definitely not the remarkable woman you’re becoming.
Midlife Mindset Shifts for a Magical Halloween
Halloween is more than candy corn and cobwebs. It can be a seasonal ritual that wakes up parts of you that have been buried under jobs, caregiving, deadlines, and endless to-do lists. Here’s how to make it transformative:
Reframe aging as an adventure. Every year you gain more magic—more story to tell—more wisdom to weave into who you appear to be. Dress the part.
Redefine flaws. That quirky laugh you’ve always had? Make it your Halloween sound effect. Your short stature? Wear towering heels or embrace a pixie costume.
Break stereotypes. You don’t have to “dress age-appropriate.” Wear sequins, feathers, leather—wear your self-expression.
Play with archetypes. Find a costume that mirrors your personality type—you’ll be amazed how it deepens self-understanding.
Unmask the myths. Halloween doesn’t mean pretending to be someone else. It’s embodying another delicious expression of you.
The reality? There’s a cultural construct that says women beyond a certain age should shrink their fun. Tear it down. Halloween in midlife is your time to strut, sparkle, and laugh until your cheeks hurt.

SENSING JUDGERS (SJ)
Dutiful Types: ESTJ
Harry Potter characters are so aligned with your true self, the keeper of justice: Vernon Dursley, Dolores Umbridge, and Hermione Granger. Shrek is also an option, as is Princess Leia of Star Wars. As a bold and determined risk-taker, you may also consider wearing Ayesha, a Guardians of the Galaxy costume.
Grounded Types: ISTJ
As a traditionalist, you may want to party in a scary pumpkin ensemble, Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol, or as first U.S. President George Washington. You may also arrive ready to party as the persistent, results-driven, and determined soul that you are by dressing as Angela from The Office.
Attentive Types: ESFJ
Your true self is all about self-discovery, convention, and reliability. Costumes to consider include Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco; Princess Fiona, wife of Shrek; Lisa Simpson, from The Simpsons; and Alfred Pennyworth, Batman’s loyal butler.
Kindly Types: ISFJ
You are responsible and accountable, with a mother hen energy, so you may party on as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, known as the Mother of Dragons, a courageous, compassionate, and tenacious soul, which totally vibes with your true self. Or try these ideas: Rory Gilmore, Gilmore Girls; Mother Teresa, Catholic nun; and Marge Simpson, The Simpsons.
INTUITIVE FEELERS (NF)
Harmonious Types: ENFJ
Be you and show up costumed as a rebellious leader, an idealist, and a non-conformist. You may want to show up as a wise wanderer, prophesizing your visions to those drawn to your magnetic energies. Consider Florence Scovel Shinn (1871–1940); Joan of Arc; Wonder Woman, a superhero from the DC Comics; and Padmé Amidala, Star Wars.
Insightful Types: INFJ
Your true self is genuinely authentic, patient, and naturally influential. Come as you are as Carl Jung, a Swiss Psychiatrist who developed deliciously compelling intellectual insights. A few more modern-day ideas: Andy Sachs, The Devil Wears Prada; Galadriel, The Lord of the Rings; Prince Caspian, The Chronicles of Narnia; or Lisa Simpson, The Simpsons.
Expressive Types: ENFP
Humanity fascinates you and fits your star qualities, uber individualistic and optimistic, and your child-like nature is contagious. Think Phoebe Buffay in Friends; you could pull off a Pheobe who’s said to be your type. She was my fave! Or if not Pheobe, consider Jessica Jones, Alias Comics; Daniel Hillard, Mrs. Doubtfire; Willy Wonka, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or Dory from Finding Nemo!
Seeking Types: INFP
You’re an identity seeker, purposeful and self-reliant. Since you despise conforming altogether, you may show up as Santa Claus, or even as yourself, sans costume. Other non-conformists you may want to consider: J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series; William Shakespeare, playwright; Skeeter Phelan, a character from The Help; and Vincent van Gogh, an artist.
SENSING THINKERS (ST)
Spirited Types: ESTP
You’re inventive and overflowing with charisma, a non-conformist at heart. A few costume ideas worth your consideration: Donald Trump, 45th U.S. president; John Smith, Pocahontas; Prince Caspian, The Chronicles of Narnia; and John F. Kennedy, 35th U.S. president. You navigate the world like a warrior, so be a positive warrior for change! Historically, we can say that is very accurate.
Active Types: ISTP
What drives the real you is your individualism and boldness. It’s being your guru, fearless and oh-so self-assured. How about Amelia Earhart; Aristotle, from the book Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe; Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games, or Shrek from the Shrek movie series? Can you see yourself in these characters?
Playful Types: ESFP
Here’s what your true self has to say about you: you have rapid-fire intelligence, a determined resolution, and yes, there will be drama. Halloween costumes you can wear with pride: Hedy Lamarr, actor; Marie Antoinette, Queen of France; or Aphrodite.
Expressive Types: ISFP
How others perceive you is unimportant. Your true self will have you exploring, experimenting, and adapting to any given situation. You don’t look to others for an opinion. Think Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, former U.S. first lady; Audrey Hepburn, actor; Pocahontas, from Pocahontas; or Marilyn Monroe. All have that rare and fascinating vibe!
INTUITIVE THINKERS (NT)
Curious Types: ENTP
You are always curious and outlandish, a knowledge seeker, and deeply skeptical. Dr. Seuss, American children’s book author, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!; Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; Empress Zoe, the second daughter of Constantine VIII; or Ada Lovelace, considered to be the first computer programmer, are fabulous costume ideas and represent the who of who you really are!
Ingenious Types: INTP
You can be quite eccentric, a genius, and inventive, with a calm and laidback vibe. A few characters that would honor your true self: Neo, The Matrix; Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock; Albert Einstein, physicist; Yoda, Star Wars; or Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and only woman to win the Nobel Prize twice, and the only person to win the Nobel Prize in two scientific fields. Yeah, so I guess genius fits you well.
Assured Types: ENTJ
Being yourself means you’re commanding, cunning, and authoritative. A few Halloween ideas to honor your true self: Kerchak, Tarzan; Adele, singer; Miranda Priestly, a character in The Devil Wears Prada; Cleopatra, Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt; Empress Theodora, one of the most powerful and influential women in Byzantine history; or Edna, from The Incredibles, for a modern take on you!
Inventive Types: INTJ
You are courageous, resolved, and have a stubborn soul, as some say. You prefer to see yourself as persistent and one who doesn’t back down. A few costumed characters that represent who you really are: the first woman mentioned in the Hebrew bible, Queen of Sheba; Ayn Rand, writer, and philosopher, Atlas Shrugged; or Jane Austin, a prolific writer of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1816). Maybe coming as a book cover!

About Spiritual Personality Typing℠
My goal is to shift perspectives around MBTI® personality typing—to break free from stereotypes and oversimplifications. Remember, your personality type is sacred. Your persona is just a mask.
It’s my intention that you begin to see your archetype as a sacred tool—an expression of your true self.
Of course, good things in life come to those who do the work. Take responsibility and make personality typing, infused with spiritual understanding, a daily practice. You’ll soon realize that your rational self and your soul self rely on each other to ignite a soulful, meaningful life. When you fully embrace this concept, a profound awakening occurs. It moves you closer to your truth, liberating you from a purposeless existence.
You’ll be ready for any occasion, situation, or event—whether it’s travel, relationships, career, passion, or purpose. Ahh, the freedom to live a meaningful life—isn’t that what we all desire?
Who Is Nina Zapala?

I created Spiritual Personality Typing℠ during what I call my “midlife tsunami,” a season of upheaval that stripped away illusions and brought me to truth which taught me; old-school typology only tells half the story. Knowing this, I developed a new paradigm one that unites the soul and self—a committed way of living authentically, unapologetically. The roadmap to your true self.
This is not about “anti-aging.” It’s about authentic aging—showing up as your truest self, wildly free and unapologetic leaving a sacred legacy that only you can bring to the world.
Here’s what I’ve come to know: Every wrinkle is a story. Every scar, a sacred map. When we deny our true self, the soul withers. When we embrace her, we bloom into timelessness.
