7 Ways to Start Unpacking Your Fearful Ego-Personality?

How do you know you’re living from a fearful, ego-personality? There are tell-tell signs. We’re going to look at these, plus the 7 ways to start unpacking your fearful ego-personality. Did you know, most of us operate from a fearful ego-personality? UGH! We step into adulthood with this personality, packed neatly and undisturbed. Why? It’s conditioned into us. The ego-personality typically forms in childhood. Remember, you’re terrible twos? It’s a time of many no’s, rebellious behavior, lots of tears, and hissy fits. Sounding a bit like mid-life⏤🤪. Let’s see what Jung says.

Ego Personality According to Carl Jung

According to Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, says the ego begins to develop in the early childhood years. A time when a child’s own unique identity hasn’t been formed yet. He believed that a child’s personality develops as a reflection of both parents. And yet, these influences impact each child very differently. Parents have a big impact on developing a child’s personality, shaping beliefs, and affecting a child’s behavior well into adulthood.

According to Jung, the ego represents the conscious mind as it comprises the thoughts, memories, and emotions a person is aware of.

Carl Jung, Swiss psychologist and developer of psychoanalytic theory

Between infancy and puberty, the ego is packed up neatly and put on a shelf. Without questioning it, we unconsciously carry this neatly packed bag of our early childhood into adulthood. Why would we? The majority of us trust our parents? We rely on the ego developed in childhood as the go-to in adulthood. Think about it we jump on the train of life. Go to high school. Graduate. Pick a career. Go to college. Graduate. Get a job. Followed by a climb up the corporate ladder or marriage and family. The stuff of days, keeping up and competing, we’re so busy we never stop to examine our lives or our life choices.

It’s Only When We Stop

For many of us, a major life change stops us or slows us down. We then start examining how we got to where we are. These major life changes could be a career, an empty nest, a messy-mid-life divorce, or a definitive realization that there must be something more. Many of us take time to figure ourselves out in these moments, re-examining or reinventing ourselves and embarking on a self-development path.

Are you still with me? Let’s look at some of the tell-tell signs of your fearful ego-personality. And please, we all got ’em, so don’t think you’re alone.

Let’s Look at Symptoms of a Fearful Ego Personality

All human actions are motivated at their deepest level by two emotions–fear or love. In truth, there are only two emotions–only two words in the language of the soul…. Fear wraps our bodies in clothing, love allows us to stand naked. Fear clings to and clutches all that we have, love gives all that we have away. Fear holds close, love holds dear. Fear grasps, love lets go. Fear rankles, love soothes. Fear attacks, love amends.

NEALE DONALD WALSCH, Conversations with God

I love this quote by Neale Donald Walsch from the book Conversations with God. This book never left my side when I went through my messy mid-life or what I call my 7-year tsunami. It was a Godsend, literally.

In a nutshell, Walsch and many others proclaim that life is built around anxiety when you live from fear. We all know fear. Greed, jealousy, competition, external gratification, not good enough, scarcity mindset, control… Much of it is conditional. It’s the beliefs, values, and negative habits found in that neatly packed suitcase you’ve been carrying around for decades. Just so you know, the majority of these beliefs are not yours. It’s the releasing of these beliefs and values is where transformation begins. It’s hard work. Years of introspection. And trust.

Now let’s explore the 10 ways to start unpacking your fearful ego-personality.

7 Ways to Start Unpacking Your Fearful Ego-Personality?

In all transparency, the best way to start unpacking your fearful ego-personality is to experience your fears head-on. Ready a listicle can help inspire you to begin re-examining yourself, but to honestly know your truth, TrueSelf, you’ll have to experience it. Reading and learning lead to understanding, while experiencing leads to knowing. Conscious learning is one of the many liberating lessons I learned during my messy-mid-life tsunami.

Searching for your truth and fulfillment is an inside job. It’s an exploration of your inner self, beliefs, values, and habits. It reveals negative self-talk that’s been packed away in your childhood suitcase for decades. Here’s a simple way to start this journey. Stop. Take 30 seconds and breathe deeply. If you’re called, write down what comes up – if you cry, good. Cry as long as you want; if you get angry, good. Punch a pillow or scream at the top of your lungs. OK, the screaming part works when you’re alone. Keep doing this for 30 days. Repeat and continue.

3. Trust yourself and the process. Trust is tricky because we’ve been deceived into thinking we have to trust an appointed religion, our parents, a guru, an institution… Truth to be told, it’s all about trusting yourself. The breath works practice above helps develop self-trust.

#4

Know that if you thought yourself into your life, you could rethink yourself into a new life. How? Daydream every day about your perfect life? Get quiet and focus intently on the daydream. How does it feel, what does it look like, go into detail, and each day add another element to the dream?

I believe a mindfulness practice is one of the best ways to tap into your Divinely appointed personality type. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Echart Tolle are two gentlemen that know a lot about this. Here’s a simple mindfulness morning practice. I love flowers, so I set my timer for 5 minutes and gaze at the fresh flowers. I breathe in and witness the breath, and I breathe out and notice the breath. When my mind starts to wander, I bring my focus back to the flowers.

#6

Do you know your dominant personality trait? I believe this trait to be rooted in your True Self. It’s essential to determine your beliefs and your truth, and it helps you identify inherited ego-personality traits.

#7

Ahh, the inferior trait, which I find to be more of a shadow trait. Modern personality type experts don’t give a lot of credence to this one. They say this trait is the one you’re least likely to use. I believe the opposite. Here’s why. Divine Intelligence gave you a personality, pure, whole, and intact. I think we need to be very aware of this trait. Most of us aren’t. The inferior trait is harder to comprehend as it’s the opposite of our dominant trait. To understand and see it for what it is introspection and reflection are needed. But how many of us really do this? Typically we don’t. Learn more here.
