Create a unique voice using these seven word branding games are the exact tools that I take all of my clients through who participate in my soul branding or soul-fed copywriting programs.
Games are fun.
Work should be fun.
Can we all agree we need more fun in our work lives.
Clients always comment that they would have never thought to pair certain words with their brand. They’re having fun, and learning new things about themselves. Mission accomplished!
Here’s the thing. There was a time when I thought my voice—my true, soul-aligned voice—was something I had to discover. I discovered the hidden treasure buried beneath layers of expectations, industry jargon, AI, and what we think other people want us to be… If you want to shine your light YOUR words, need to be true to yourself.
My soul, in its infinite wisdom, threw me a metaphorical tsunami, one so powerful it compelled me to rethink everything—including how I expressed the Who of Who I really am and How I’m meant to show up in the world.
Your journey will be different.
I realized something crucial: we don’t just find our voice; we create it.
Word Branding Games for Entrepreneurs Is Crucial
And as entrepreneurs, our brand’s voice isn’t just words on a page—it’s an energetic signature, a force that attracts, repels, and forges deep connections with the people we’re here to serve. But crafting that voice? That takes intention, self-awareness, and soul excavation. These word branding games helps you ignite your inner passion, moving from the inside out. A very different pathway then personal branding, which typically moves from the outside in. Big Difference.
So if you’re tired of sounding like everyone else, if you’re longing for a brand voice that feels unmistakably you, let’s dive into some creative word-branding exercises that will help you refine, define, and own your voice—one that speaks from experience, not just expertise.

Why Word Branding Games for Entrepreneurs … Their Fun
These are some fun exercises that help you play around with your brand voice. It’s easy to get lost in industry jargon and the templated world we live in that makes everyone sound the same. Boring! These exercises help you break free of repetitive phrases and inspire you to put some thought and “soul” into your personal brand. I mean, it’s your origin story, so why not show up as you, not the same old vanilla word clouds that you’ve seen 1,000 times?
Grab a journal (I prefer you use pencil and paper; it’s an energy thing) and work your way through these word-branding exercises. Enjoy, and please comment below if you came up with some uber-cool new verbiage for your brand. I’d love for you to share!
1. “This or That” Game
Your brand voice is a living, breathing thing—it has a personality, (Myers-Briggs with a spiritual understanding) quirks, and a rhythm of its own. I guess this is obvious but you must know your personality type because it speaks to your traits. Here’s a page that offers a free quiz, and please note I don’t guarantee that you correctly identify your personality, but I do offer, 1:1 guided session to bring you offline into a bespoke clarity session. Book yours today is your feeling called.
Ok, back to defining core traits, it’s best to choose between opposing styles. Hint: when you define your core traits you also define your authentic tone of voice. Here are a few examples:
🔹 Formal vs. Casual
🔹 Chatty vs. Matter-of-fact
🔹 Fun vs. Serious
🔹 Inspiring vs. No-nonsense
Don’t park yourself in the middle. Get clear. Get bold. Own it. The goal isn’t to sound like everybody, but to embody a voice that speaks directly to your people.
2. “This But Not That” Game
Now that you’ve identified your brand’s key traits, let’s refine them. Because “fun” can mean goofy, witty, or lighthearted. And “smart” can mean cutting-edge, intellectual, or just plain intuitive AF.
Try this formula:
🔹 Confident but not boastful
🔹 Quirky but not chaotic
🔹 Empowering but not preachy
🔹 Soulful but not woo-woo overload
This small shift adds depth to your brand voice, making it more distinct and memorable.
3. The Celebrity Game
If your brand were a person, who would it be?
Would it have the whip-smarts and sense of humor of Tina Fey (INTP)? The bold, unapologetic creativity of Lady Gaga (ISFP)? The soulful wisdom of Maya Angelou (ENFJ)?
Or maybe, your brand is a little more unconventional—a mix of Brene Brown’s (INFJ) vulnerability, Elizabeth Gilbert’s (ENFP) wanderlust, and Judi Dench (ESFP) pragmatic, observant, and engaging persona.
This exercise helps you personify your voice—so that every word carries the right emotional frequency. Remember the 80/20 rule it holds fast for websites, too. As 80% of websites are visuals leaving 20% for words. Make your words matter!
Words evoke emotion and that’s how we humans make decisions!
4. The Keyword Brainstorm
Words have power. They create emotion, evoke imagery, and shape perception.
Take a stack of sticky notes (or a blank doc) and brain-dump words that define your brand. Ask your team (or trusted clients) to do the same. Then, compare:
🔹 Which words light you up …Soul inspired?
🔹 Which feels off-brand?
🔹 Which ones keeps repeating?
Your brand voice isn’t just how you speak—it’s how people feel when they hear you. Choose words that align with your emotions and speak to your soul!
5. Opposite Brand Description
Sometimes, defining what your brand is not is the fastest way to clarify what it is.
For example:
🔹 Nike is bold but not reckless.
🔹 Patagonia is eco-conscious but not preachy.
🔹 Apple is innovative but not overwhelming.
Now, try it for your brand:
“My brand is [trait] but not [misconception].”
This cuts through the noise and refines your voice into something unmistakably you.
6. Tone of Voice Scale
Your brand’s tone may shift depending on the platform, but its core energy stays the same. I help you define this through your North Star, a spiritually dominant persona attribute that must remain at the core of your brand to uphold authenticity. Connect with me if you’d like information on my soul-branding process.
How does your voice adapt across different spaces?
✅ Website: Inspirational, deep, mentor-like
✅ Social Media: Engaging, light-hearted, personal
✅ Emails: Conversational, encouraging, direct
A clear tone scale keeps your voice consistent while allowing flexibility where needed.
7. The Hypothetical Dinner Party
If your brand showed up at a dinner party, who would it be? (Also check out my post, how your persona shows up for Thanksgiving dinner. Your personal brand is the culmination of your personality led by your wise inner guide within, layered with life experiences, country culture…)
🔹 The charismatic storyteller drawing people in?
🔹 The wise mentor sharing hard-earned insights?
🔹 The playful, witty guest keeping things lively?
Your brand isn’t just a business—it’s an experience. How do you want people to feel when they engage with it?

The Checklist For Creating a Unique Brand Voice
Now, let’s pull it all together. Create a living, breathing checklist that defines your brand’s voice:
✔ Words & phrases that reflect your brand
✔ Words & tones to avoid
✔ Examples of how you “sound” in different contexts
This ensures consistency and clarity, whether it’s you, a team member, or even AI writing your copy.
Word Branding Exercises for Entrepreneurs: Final Thoughts
Entrepreneurs often struggle with their brand voice because they’re searching from an external POV, trying to sound the “right” way.
Here’s the truth: there is no right way—only your way.
Your voice is not just strategy—it’s soul work. It’s the intersection of who you are, what you stand for, and how you’re meant to serve.
So own it. Refine it. Let it evolve. And most of all—use it.
Because the world doesn’t need another generic voice. It needs yours.
