Imagine a blend of Myers-Briggs and spiritual exploration—a more expansive approach that combines personality typing with spirituality. This transformative perspective can revolutionize the way you travel, helping you embark on journeys with greater intention and joy.
Often, we get bogged down by the logistics of travel—reservations, packing, and planning—losing sight of the profound potential for personal growth that travel offers. Instead of just ticking off your to-do list take a moment to reflect on what you truly want to awaken or change within yourself. Ask: What do I want to discover, heal, or transform during this trip?
Whether you’re exploring your own backyard or venturing to a distant destination, there are moments that can shake you awake and spark self-discovery. Travel has become formulaic—search, pack, go. But by elevating travel into a meaningful experience, you can turn even a relaxing beach vacation into an opportunity for profound insight.
When you understand your travel personality type, you can choose destinations that resonate with your true self. You’ll feel more at home and less disoriented, as if the place is speaking directly to your soul. Embrace this approach to travel, and watch how it transforms your journey into a path of self-discovery and alignment.
Detours become spiritual journeys. Indigenous cultures invite new ways of thinking. Triggers offer healing opportunities. – Nina Zapala, Author + Founder of Spiritual Personality Typing
Best Beaches For Your Personality Type Using a New You Travel Guide
Travel can be so much more than a consumptive escape. I believe it to be a classroom for self-discovery, a pilgrimage where we leave our routines behind and embrace the moments. It’s exploring from the inside out, intentional and mindful, steering clear of consumer-driven chaos.
Plus, when we embark on a pilgrimage, we experience life in real-time. Experiences often lead to wisdom. It’s been reported that experiences activate cognitive flexibility*, which changes the structure and/or function in response to new stimuli. The perfect time to evoke self-awakening experiences.

Sensing Perceiving Types (SP): Best Beaches For Your Personality Type
In my new book, was written with the idea of using travel as a playground for self-discovery; a new you travel guide. I’ve carved out a unique look at how sensing perceiving types travel. I’ve found them chase what’s new and different while away; artistic, adventurous and adaptable. The AAA travelers. Now on to best beaches for your personality type:
Spirited Travelers (ESTP)
Reflection: Spirited travelers are unconventional, alert, and highly adaptable, you excel at thinking on your feet and convincing others to support your solutions. Stay mindful that others may have different ideas.
You have an uncanny way of knowing where the action is, and you are likely to find it on Zakynthos, a Greek isle in the Mediterranean. This island has a reputation as a wild party isle, which actually suits your spirited personality type. Beyond the wild party reputation, the island offers a fabulous beach with a dreamy blend of blues and greens just off the western mainland, part of the Ionian island group. The landscapes are equally enchanting, cloaked in olive trees, numbering an estimated two million, along with pine trees, citrus orchards, and rare flowers like sea daffodils. Bougainvillea and jasmine bring vivid color and aroma which was formerly known as Fior di Levante (the flower of the East).
Active Travelers (ISTP)
Reflection: Active travelers are thrill-seeking adventurists who rarely sit still. Be mindful of your active nature and work to be fully present to thoroughly enjoy the experience instead of rushing to your next prompt-to adventure.
Maui, Hawaii is a breathtaking paradise begging to be discovered. Known for its stunning landscapes, this Hawaiian island offers a plethora of activities. From surfing the iconic waves of Ho’okipa Beach to hiking the scenic trails of Haleakalā National Park, there’s never a dull moment. Don’t miss the opportunity to snorkel with sea turtles at Molokini Crater or zipline through lush rainforests. Maui is the perfect playground for Active Travelers.
If you respect that Maui needs a rest from tourists due to the devastating fires in 2023, may I suggest a visit to Pembrokeshire Coast on the southwestern shore of Wales. This is a place where Active travelers can enjoy coasteering, cliff jumping, surfing on scary reef breaks, and swimming in sea caves.
Playful Travelers (ESFP)
Reflection:Playful travelers radiate warmth and friendliness, embracing life with a joie de vivre. You live in the moment and tend to be impulsive, avoiding conflict and negativity. Remember, ignoring issues doesn’t resolve them. Take a moment to ask yourself what is driving the drama.
A fabulous beach option is Valparaiso, Chile, a maze of hills, chic beach clubs, gourmet dining, and world-class art galleries. This destination is a UNESCO World Heritage site that sits on Chile’s Pacific Coast. It’s known as the ‘Jewel of the Pacific’ and has long inspired poets and writers. Playful travelers will want to explore the port and fishing wharves to get the real feel for Chile’s quirky seafaring side. Enjoy freshly-caught seafood at the market and bantering with local fishermen!
Abstract Travelers (ISFP)
Reflection: Active travelers are thrill-seeking adventurers who rarely sit still. Embrace your nature, but also remember to be fully present to truly enjoy each experience, rather than rushing to the next adventure.
These travelers find Miami Beach captivating, as their artistic nature will get lost in the architecture, people, and places. Yet within minutes of downtown is Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park which promises sandy white beaches with no development, and bayside hideaways. This is an ideal place for Abstract travelers who are athletically inclined and are likely to pedal the 1.5-mile paved pathway in the park, hiking nature trails through mangrove wetlands. They will also gather family friends at the end of a long day to enjoy an outdoor feast at a picnic pavilion overlooking Biscayne Bay, with views of the iconic 1825 Cape Florida Lighthouse.
You are a dynamic being of light that at each moment informs the energy that flows through you. You do this with each thought. With each intention.” – Gary Zukav.
Sensing Judging Types (SJ): Best Beaches For Your Personality Type
In my debut book I’ve carved out a unique look at how sensing thinking types travel. People love to travel with you as you keep things running smoothly. The ETA travelers are exacting, traditional and advising. Now on to best beaches for your personality type:
Dutiful Travelers (ESTJ)
Reflection: Dutiful travelers are highly responsible and traditional which leads you to book destinations that honor your country’s traditions, values, and beliefs. Participate in or observe a situation outside your traditional beliefs. Reflect on how you feel—are you judging, or can you accept the differences and move on?
Dutiful travelers may enjoy a visit to Kitsilano, which is probably Vancouver’s (and Canada’s) best urban beach, and has a Southern California vibe. Hip cafes and an attractive park, Kits (as called by the locals) exudes a sporty, laid-back vibe, with volleyball being especially popular, but frisbees and footballs can also been seen flying through the air. The beaches offer views of Vancouver’s glass skyscrapers and the North Shore mountains. Beyond the sugary, sandy beaches, Kits offers an enormous nearly 450ft (137m)-long saltwater pool, one of the largest of its kind in the world.
Grounded Travelers ( ISTJ)
Reflection: Grounded travelers often draw on the past to shape their present, making nostalgic getaways a natural choice. A meditation practice would be highly beneficial. As you gain clarity about yourself, you’ll better understand the world around you, likely opening up new opportunities.
Cape May, New Jersey is renowned for its prismatic Victorian mansions that line this seashore. Two connected beaches make this a rare East Coast destination where the sun sets right over the water due to their westward orientation. Other highlights? The town’s pedestrian-only Washington Street, lined with charming and historic local shops, along with the famous Cape May Lighthouse, built in the mid-1800s and still in use today.
To note: Tourists will need a beach tag, badge, pass, or token to visit beaches in New Jersey. Even though the name varies from beach to beach, it is ultimately an admission pass that allows the state to regulate the number of visitors to each beach and raise funds for their maintenance and lifeguarding.
Attentive Travelers (ESFJ)
Reflection: Attentive travelers focus on bringing families and friends together to create memories and often welcome other travelers, driven by curiosity and a desire to explore fresh perspectives. Question your reaction to stubbornly defending you believe. It’s ok that you don’t agree with everyone on the planet.
Look for beaches that offer activities that get you out of your comfort zone, like the Lofoten Islands. This place is a nature paradise with skyscraping mountains, fjords, and picturesque islands with stunning beaches. On the coast, in between the mountains, along the fjords, you’ll find charming fishing villages filled with restaurants, cafes, galleries, museums, excellent hotels and cozy fishermen’s cabins (called rorbuer in Norwegian). A beautiful place for memory-making!
Kindly Travelers (ISFJ)
Reflection: Kindly travelers, with their passion for the past and thoughtful nature, often attract companions who share these qualities. Remember to take responsibility for your own journey, and understand that you are not accountable for everyone else’s experience.
The historic Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is calling you. The resort is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has welcomed F. Scott Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Taylor, Jimmy Carter, and Muhammad Ali. The 85-room property has undergone a massive renovation and reopened inviting guests to enjoy their colorful décor, an indoor pool, three restaurants, a distillery, and an impressive art collection.
He who knows himself, knows God. – St. Augustine
Intuitive Feeling Types (NF): Best Beaches For Your Personality Type
In my book Unpack Your Personality, I’ve carved out a unique look at how intuitive feeling types travel. These travelers are rare, inspirational and persuasive. The AFT travelers are abstract, flexible and transcendentalists. Now on to best beaches for your personality type:
Harmonious Travelers (ENFJ)
Reflection: Harmonious travelers actively seek to connect with others while on vacation. You intuitively understand others’ perspectives and eagerly offer your support. However, not everyone can accept your generosity (they simply might not know how), which can lead to disappointment. Question the situation at hand to see where or if the other person is worthy of your time and attention.
Mystical and gregarious, you genuinely want to make the world a better place. You may visit a place that offers local volunteer programs such as the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Enjoy a beach vacation and also feel good about becoming a steward of the marine ecosystem while educating others to care for and protect the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Harmonious travelers will feel so inspired by their volunteer experiences.
Insightful Travelers (INFJ)
Reflection: Insightful travelers often find it challenging to reconcile their idealistic visions with the present reality. While your gracious idealism inspires others, remember that everyone has the free will to make their own choices, leading to their own consequences and actions.
The Amanwana hidden on Indonesia’s Moyo Island, just east of Bali, features tented suites both in the jungle and on the island’s unspoiled beaches. Here, amidst the beauty of the island’s nature, you can take the time and space to reconnect with your inner self. The resort’s unique spa offers an alternative to the regime and routine. It was designed to combine Indonesian-influenced techniques with the best of the East and the West wellness treatments.
Expressive Travelers (ENFP)
Reflection: Expressive travelers thrive on novelty and personal expression, embracing a “live and let live” attitude. You understand better than most that individual expression can be challenging for some to accept. Are you allowing another’s opinion dim your vibrant approach to travel? If so, maybe a review of a core value is in order?
You enjoy engaging with others, exploring, and self-guided and DIY activities. Also uber creative, these travelers prefer an authentic beach destination like Isla Holbox, just north of Cancun, Mexico. Conde Nast Traveler dubbed Isla Holbox “One of Mexico’s Last Secret Beach Towns” back in 2017. The sandy beaches, aqua-blue waters, and nature preserve are captivating and oh-so genuine. Strolling and browsing the markets and textile shops in town is a fun way to spend a few days. On CNTs hot list is a family-run hotel, Punta Caliza, with a modern, Mayan-style beach home vibe.
Seeking Travelers (INFP)
Reflection: Seeking travelers thrive in places that allow their individuality to shine. Steer clear of the tourism-driven vacations, as they doesn’t align with who you are. While you can empathize with others, remember that you don’t have to adopt their beliefs. Believing in yourself is crucial for staying true to your self.
You love long walks in nature and time for reflection, so look for beach destinations that feature unique natural settings. A special place for Seeking travelers to visit is Oamaru, New Zealand, an eccentric South Island town. Their white limestone townscape is unlike anywhere in New Zealand, giving way to locals’ creativity with a steampunk-themed art gallery and a playground. Delight in the world’s smallest species of penguins that nest in Gorgeous gardens, bizarre rock features like the famous Moeraki Boulders, and even an artisan cheese factory are all available to add diversity to your itinerary.
To note: The Katiki Point Lighthouse, 35 miles out of Oamaru, is an incredible place to spot yellow-eyed penguins in the wild. We went with no expectations and were absolutely blown away. Please be mindful that these penguins are in their natural habitat. Respect it!
It is the beginning of wisdom when you recognize that the best you can do is choose which rules you want to live by.” – Wallace Stegner, novelist, environmentalist, historian.
Intuitive Thinking Types (NT): Best Beaches For Your Personality Type
My transformation book, offers a unique look at how intuitive thinking types travel. These travelers are rare, inspirational and persuasive. The ECO travelers are intellectual, rare and logical. Now on to best beaches for your personality type:
Assured Travelers (ENTJ)
Reflection:Assured travelers embrace challenges and seek self-improvement, luxury, and the latest travel apps. Finding solutions to problems is your strength. Take time to reflect on your solution and ask yourself; is it beneficial for you, or for everyone?
To meet the Assured travelers desire, they may enjoy a stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay, a sumptuous stay with a backdrop of craggy mountains and the turquoise blue waters of the bay. To elevate the already uber-lux experience, Assured travelers will want to sail on the Omani Dhow, a sailboat typical of the golden age of Arabian voyages. Guests onboard from the resort sail through the Musandam fjords, stopping in secluded fishing villages and private bays. The Assured traveler will have a reservation for a spa therapist, or maybe even cooking classes with the chef or dives in the bay aboard the Dhahab. It costs $22,000 for a three-day, two-night itinerary on the boat. Assured travelers work hard and play hard, so this trip would be a well-earned stay!
The Inventive Traveler (INTJ)
Reflection: Inventive travelers enjoy contingency planning, organizing, and refining itineraries. If a plan fails, don’t let it derail your vacation. Instead, use the experience to gain new insights and build a fresh plan from the ground up.
Phuket, Thailand, with its captivating beaches, is a top choice as it’s home to some of Thailand’s best beaches, such as the bustling Patong, the more subdued Kata, and the idyllic Nai Harn. These stunning coastlines lead to vivid teal water, which you can explore on a traditional longtail boat. There aren’t many untouched, secluded beaches in this tourist hot spot, yet the beaches feature restaurants, beachside massage services and bars, plus a host of amenity-filled resorts ideal for a carefree beach vacation.
Curious Travelers (ENTP)
Reflection: Curious travelers are always looking for adventure and ready to learn from locals. You thrive on creative ideas and enjoy sharing what you’ve learned, even if others find it unconventional. Take a step back and observe your approach. While it’s great to embrace your own unique thinking, remember that not everyone shares in your enthusiasm. Question you need to overshare. What is it telling you?
These travelers have a desire to explore the local culture and have a preference for atypical beach escapes, such as Bermuda. With its pink sandy beaches, Bermuda shorts, blended cultures, an onsite perfumery, and the evening sounds of nature whistlers—tree frogs—it’s an enchanting, unique escape. It also hints at mystery, which Curious travelers will love to explore. A few places to start is Tom Moore’s Jungle, named for the Irish poet who relished the area. This is a perfect place for forest bathing, walking the lush forest trails, swimming in translucent blue waters and exploring subterranean caves at this 12-acre reserve. Oh, and let’s not forget the Bermuda Triangle…which will have these types thinking for days.
The Ingenious Traveler (INTP)
Reflection: Ingenious travelers often seek minimalist, authentic, slow, and intelligent escapes. With a knack for connecting problems and solutions, remember that you also have blind spots.
A beach destination you are likely to enjoy is Hoi An, Vietnam, a South East Asian country that’s home to beautiful coastlines! Hoi An is the country’s top beach destination for those craving culture. The historic port city sits on Vietnam’s central coast and it’s teeming with elegant Japanese tea houses, colonial-era French mansions, and traditional Vietnamese tube houses. It’s blissfully traffic-free, too, and features a lovely ancient city center criss-crossed with canals. Hoi An is also a jumping off point for trips to the Cham Islands—an idyllic archipelago just 30 minutes away by speedboat that has a string of wonderful white sand beaches where you can swim and soak up the sun.
