When I was a girl, I remember walking the city streets of Pittsburgh, with my mom, who had an antenna directly tuned into Divine Intelligence. She could read people instantly. She would smile and say, “There’s a handsome fella,” and then quickly add, “but not good energy.” She wasn’t a mystic in flowing robes—in fact, she never studied her intuitive abilities. She could sense her departed relatives. She taught me that just because you don’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t real. She was a devout Catholic, and didn’t feel free to speak about her intuitive gifts. I’ve always wondered about the depth and breadth of her intuitive skills…

As a young kid, I didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of this gift, yet that seed she planted stayed with me. Now, in my sixties, I see her intuition as a Divine compass that also lives within me. It took a tsunami of life challenges, messy detours, and decades of unlearning to recognize and honor this ability. But here I am, finally offering my gift to the world through Spiritual Personality Typing.

And that’s why the story of Vi, a 103-year-old woman who the world is just now discovering as a fashion sketch artist, speaks to me so deeply.

The Inspiration of Vi’s Story

A beautiful story in People Magazine illuminates the story of  Vi, who nearly a century ago, poured her soul into sketchbooks, designing elegant clothing while watching her father and brother build their groundbreaking cashmere business. She never thought her sketches mattered much. Family pressures and cultural expectations nudged her toward marriage, not creativity.

So she tucked her sketches away.

Fast forward 90 years: those same teenage drawings are inspiring the world. Thousands of people are celebrating her talents. Vi smiles in disbelief, wondering aloud why her work resonates now. She never chased fame or validation—she simply created art because it mattered to her.

The beauty of Vi’s story isn’t about runways or fashion houses. It’s about the timelessness of truth. Her art didn’t expire with age. Instead, it waited for the right moment to touch hearts, awaken creativity in others, and bridge generations with invisible threads of inspiration.

Trust Your Intuition It’s The Mindset Shift

If there’s a moral here, it’s this: your gifts don’t have an expiration date.

Many of us quiet the voice of our soul. We say, “It’s too late. No one will care. I’m not good enough. Excuses that have no real merit.  But Vi proves otherwise. Like Vi, I put parts of myself away for decades. My intuitive gifts sat quietly while I pursued other roles—mother, daughter, entrepreneur, woman navigating life’s storms. Yet, just as my mom advised, I learned to cross the street even when the world said, “Don’t go that way.”

That’s the essence of living and aging authentically.

Who Is Nina Zapala?

I published a book and founded Spiritual Personality Typing℠ during what I call my midlife tsunami — a season that shook every illusion and surfaced my deepest truths.
