How to Plan Romantic Getaways For Your Personality

Plan romantic getaways for your personality type isn’t necessarily about a specific plan. That’s wrong thinking. Instead, it’s more about your type’s likes and dislikes and, of course, figuring out your partner’s personality type, tastes, their romantic desires. You and your partner’s needs should always come first. In fact, many people don’t even like to plan. OMG, J types are freak’in over this statement. 😉

It’s the month of love, February, and there’s no time like the present to plan a romantic escape, so let me help you plan a romantic vacation based on your type. I believe it’s about knowing your travel style, getting intentional with your trip, then planning. Tip, some types love a plan, while others don’t, and others make a plan and don’t stick with it, while others are ok with making a plan and being flexible. Another fabulous thing you’ll learn about one another before you board the plane.

Don’t Plan First if You Want to Experience the Ultimate Romantic Getaway

We’ve got it all wrong. As travelers, we tend to focus on planning everything out, the destination, activities, and vacation budgets. But what if, instead, we focused on our personality type first. Rather than planning, we opt to set intentions for more meaningful and purpose-driven trips, which inspire extraordinary learning, soul-searching, and a joyful reconnection with our partner.

It’s always best to let your soul SELF lead the journey, as the soul will continuously tap into your deepest desires. You may take long meditative walks to gain clarity, or serendipitously you’ll find a fabulous shop that has the purse you’ve been wanting. Or you meet a culture crafter, a profession you’ve always longed for, and enjoy the most effortless conversation and even exchange numbers.

All of the meaningful exchanges above will have you joining your partner with a renewed curiosity, a newfound creativity ignited by an awoken energy within. Don’t be surprised that you eagerly share an aspect of yourself, a topic you’ve wanted to get off your chest for a while. So refreshing!

Shouldn’t vacationing as a couple be about meaningful connections, rekindling your passions, and dreaming about your best, most evolved future selves?

Be forewarned; you’ll remain separate from your soul’s desires if you back your fears, unwilling to let them go, even if it is only for a week. Instead of enjoying a soulful vacation, you’re fear-driven self may have you over-indulging, aimlessly wandering, or choosing to be combative with your partner no matter the surroundings.

Individuates requires relevance. No real relationship happens without individuation.

How to Plan Romantic Getaways for Couples?

I don’t believe a plan answers this question. Why? Because every couple is an individualistic pair. Within each couple is a person with nonphysical and physical characteristics driven by unique creative desires.

Can you see how this question is impossible to answer?

Yet marketers often use it to lure you to a destination? Don’t believe the hype; let your inner guide be your travel guide, then begin to explore vacation options. Realize this requires you to communicate with your partner to learn what motivates them to travel and then work together to layer your desires into a trip you’ll both enjoy. We look at how this works below.

So How Do You Plan Romantic Vacations For Your Personality Type?

You don’t!

The first thing you should do is plan to get to know one another before the trip begins. We think we know our partners, but in the daily grind of life, we lose ourselves, and without even a second thought, your spouse may also be in the same boat! Ask yourself how well you really know your partner, and I don’t mean from an external sense. I’m asking this question regarding deep desires, dreams, and plans for the future.

Vacations Can Trigger Disagreements

Here’s the thing, no matter how much we love another person or think we know them, we can be triggered by them. Why? Because we all have behaviors, habits, and characteristics that have shaped our reality, which is different from our own. Even if you have identical personality types, you’ll show up differently from your personal experiences with the physical world. And let’s not forget different personas have different traits that can be triggering.

Equally, your nonphysical self also has a say. Whether sitting beachside or doing the laundry, your eternal soul self is always with you, influencing how you show up, your relationships, and yes, impacting your travel plans. Recognize your soul’s journey is different from your partners – no two souls have the same mission, similar but never identical.

All I’m saying here is you’re dualistically aspected – meaning you have a physical self and a nonphysical self (human being) is always with you on this roller-coaster we call life: vacations are no exception.

Love has an energy that impacts inward and outward.

Unpack Your Travel Personality is the Best Planning Tip

Please understand I’ve based your travel personality type on 15 years as a travel professional and another eight years studying and researching Myers-Briggs®, Carl Jung, David Keirsey, and others. Hell, I even got certified as a Myers-Briggs® instructor. Understand the information I share is filtered through my life lens. So take what you will and leave the rest. I call this revolutionary new theory spiritual personality typing. There is no better time to explore who you really are than on vacation. Why? Because you’re removed from constructs of daily, constructs of daily living.

Also, realize you’ll need to consider your spiritual self as you begin to plan your getaway. Who teaches that? No one. And yet, your soul SELF wants to express itself on vacation? Does your soul Self need to be free and wander, explore significant works of art and history, or sit poolside daydreaming? Travel becomes a pilgrimage to the sacred you when you recognize your spiritual self is just another beautiful travel outcome.

Are you familiar with David Keirsey? He identified personality types via temperaments. To put it simply, he broke down Myer-Briggs types into similar behaviors and characteristics and grouped them into four distinct categories. Keirsey’s book Please Understand Me is a great read. I tap into his theory, adding travel, spiritual components, and the fundamental aspects of MBTI.

SP: ESTP, ISTP, ESFP, and ISFPArtistic, Adventurous, and Adaptable.

Look for sensory perceptive travel personalities (SPs) to chase the new and different in the here and now while wanting to please the senses, improvising at will. These types bring excitement to any vacation and will always want to liven things up, even their partners. A romantic vacation with this type will never be boring. It will be entertaining and know these partners are devoted to bringing pleasure to their spouses. Anything boring will trigger these travelers, like too many plans!

Affluential Travelers (ESTP)

Active Travelers (ISTP)

Energetic Travelers (ESFP)

 Aesthetic Travelers (ISFP)

SJ: ESTJ, ISTJ, ESFJ, and ISFJExacting, Traditional, and Advising

SJ types are known as planners. Expect organized and practical vacations. If a romantic dinner is scheduled for 8 PM, be ready and don’t be late. They’ve planned and made dinner reservations, so it’s an insult to them if you don’t show up on time. Packing is a no-brainer; everything has a proper place for these travelers. If you’re a spontaneous traveler, you may want to schedule time for spontaneity and rendevous with your partner later. Romantically, these travelers are willing to do almost anything to be of help, no matter what kind of trouble their spouses may find themselves on vacation – triggers may arise in these situations.

Keeper Travelers (ESTJ)

Grounded Travelers (ISTJ)

Harmonious Travelers (ESFJ)

Unassuming Travelers (ISFJ)

NF: ENFJ, INFJ, ENFP, and INFP – Transcendentalists, Abstract, and Flexible

You hunger for romance, meaningful possibilities, and you really are in love with being in love. Here’s the rub this incurable romantic self-culture leads you to unrealistic expectations about your partner – believing your love life should resemble a romantic movie! You enthusiastically help your partner feel good about themselves and will have a thoughtful surprise in their room upon arrival. You like some structure but can be flexible, making you a flexible planner. What takes priority over planning are meaningful possibilities. If your partner is a planner, they’ll want to keep a schedule which can lead to trigging moments.

Altruistic Travelers (ENFJ)

Insightful Travelers (INFJ)

Spirited Travelers (ENFP)

Seeking Travelers (INFP)

NT: ENTJ, INTJ, ENTP, and INTP – Experimental, Cerebral, and Objective.

You’re abstract, seek unconventional getaways, and are likely to engage in lively, if not argumentative, conversations. You’ll want to know the self-culture’ of a place with varied planning styles. When partnered with an NT, realize they’re intellectuals and loyalists at heart. They’ll run from chitchat, are quite spontaneous – no planning, please – relish a good time. For them, there is nothing sexier than a partner who can share in their intellectual banter. Their non-planning and argumentative ways can cause triggers.

Resolute Travelers (INTJ)
